Using Roosty
Roosty exposes Mastodon-compatible APIs, so you use it through a compatible client. The first-party web interface currently provides instance information, sign-in, account settings, and OAuth authorization; it is not yet a complete social timeline client.
Get an account
Public registration is not currently available. Ask the instance operator to create an account and provide its username, temporary password, and instance domain.
Open https://your-domain.example/login to sign in through Roosty’s first-party interface.
After signing in, open https://your-domain.example/auth/edit to replace the temporary password.
Choose a client
An instance may provide one or both bundled browser clients:
-
Elk is normally available at
https://elk.your-domain.example. -
Phanpy, when enabled by the operator, is normally available at
https://phanpy.your-domain.example.
You can also use another Mastodon-compatible web, desktop, or mobile client.
When prompted for an instance, enter the Roosty instance domain, such as your-domain.example.
The client redirects to Roosty for sign-in and authorization, then returns to the client without sharing your password with it.
Client compatibility is still growing. Consult the compatibility matrix when a client depends on a feature that appears unavailable.
Account settings
Roosty’s first-party account settings page is available at /auth/edit.
Use it to change your password.
Compatible clients can update supported profile fields, avatar and header images, and posting preferences through the Mastodon API. The exact controls depend on the client.
Everyday use
Supported clients can work with Roosty’s implemented social features, including:
-
Home, public, hashtag, and list timelines.
-
Posts, replies, edits, favourites, boosts, bookmarks, quotes, polls, and scheduled posts.
-
Local and remote follows, follow requests, mutes, blocks, and private lists.
-
Notifications, conversations, media attachments, followed hashtags, and push notifications.
Some features have documented limits, and some Mastodon features remain unavailable. The compatibility matrix is the source of truth for current behavior.

Sign-in help
If a temporary password no longer works or you forget your password, contact the instance operator. Roosty does not currently provide public email-based password recovery.
If a browser client keeps selecting an old instance, clear that client’s saved instance or site data and start the sign-in flow again. For a bundled client, the instance operator can provide its reset URL or deployment-specific troubleshooting steps.
